Tendons are used on steep slopes when additional support is needed, or where the use of stakes is prohibited (such as a rock base or a geomembrane liner). They are also used when
more than one section of a geocell is needed to cover a slope from top to bottom.
The three important characteristics of tendons are strength, resistance to elongation and durability. The design load and spacing of the tendons is determined by the force to be
supported. A large number of lighter tendons is preferable to a smaller number of heavier tendons. Batten strips or large washers at the bottom of the lowest section of the geocell are necessary to avoid stress
concentrations.
